How to Replace Your iPhone 15 Battery — Step-by-Step Guide

Is Your iPhone 15 Battery Draining Too Fast?

If your iPhone 15 is struggling to hold charge, shutting down unexpectedly, or showing a degraded battery health warning, it's likely time for a battery replacement. The good news: with the right tools and a bit of patience, this is a repair you can do yourself — and it's far cheaper than a full device replacement.

In this guide, we'll walk you through every step of replacing your iPhone 15 battery safely.

  • Pentalobe P2 screwdriver

Safety First

Before you begin, power off your iPhone completely. If the battery is visibly swollen, punctured, or damaged, do not attempt this repair — take it to a professional immediately. Work on a clean, non-static surface and keep screws organised.

Step-by-Step: iPhone 15 Battery Replacement

Step 1 — Power off and remove the SIM tray

Fully power off your iPhone 15. Use a SIM ejector tool to remove the SIM card tray and set it aside safely.

Step 2 — Remove the bottom Pentalobe screws

Using your P2 Pentalobe screwdriver, remove the two screws on either side of the Lightning/USB-C port at the bottom of the phone. Keep these in a labelled container — they are small and easy to lose.

Step 3 — Soften the adhesive and open the display

Apply low heat (a heat gun or heating pad set to around 60–70°C) around the edges of the display for 1–2 minutes to soften the adhesive. Apply a suction cup near the bottom edge and gently pull upward while sliding a plastic pick around the seam. Work slowly — the display ribbon cables are fragile.

Open the display like a book, hinging from the left side. Do not open more than 90°.

Step 4 — Disconnect the battery

Locate and remove the 5-point bracket covering the battery connector using a Phillips #000 screwdriver. Gently pry the battery connector upward with a spudger to disconnect it from the logic board. This prevents accidental power during the repair.

Step 5 — Remove the old battery

The iPhone 15 battery is secured with pull-tab adhesive strips. Grip each tab and pull slowly at a low angle (nearly parallel to the battery) to stretch and release the adhesive. If a tab breaks, apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol under the battery edge to loosen remaining adhesive.

Lift the old battery out carefully and dispose of it at an approved e-waste facility.

Step 6 — Install the new battery

Peel the protective film from the new battery's adhesive strips. Align the replacement battery in the battery bay and press it firmly into place. Reconnect the battery connector and refit the bracket.

Step 7 — Reassemble and test

Carefully close the display, pressing firmly around all edges to re-seal the adhesive. Refit the two Pentalobe screws at the bottom. Power on the device and navigate to Settings → Battery → Battery Health to confirm the new battery is registering correctly.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • "Service" warning in Battery Health: Some third-party batteries trigger this. Use OEM-quality parts where possible.
  • Display not seating fully: Check ribbon cables are not pinched before pressing the screen closed.
  • Phone not powering on: Double-check the battery connector is firmly seated and the bracket is secured.
